The Institute of Hebich Industrial Sciences, founded by the Basel Evangelical Mission Society, Switzerland has entered the 50th year of its journey in 2014. It was through the initiative of Rev. A. Veigal, the representative in Mangalore of EMS that the project took shape.
What began in its nascent stages in 1964 has today blossomed into one of the most prominent and progressive industrial institutions in Karnataka. From 1964 to 2014, we are now marking this passage through our golden jubilee celebration with great joy and pride.
Hebich Technical Training Institute – more commonly known as Hebich Institute - The very name is synonymous with discipline and precision. It is widely known in the undivided South Kanara District for the excellent Training imparted to youngsters and at the same time in machining precision components and Spare Parts not readily available – either because the Equipment or the Instrument is an imported one or because the Spare Part is just not available, thus helping the public which includes among others, small and medium Industries and also Doctors of different disciplines – Orthopedics, Surgeons, Dentists, Nursing Homes etc.
The Institute was started in 1964 – mainly due to the initiative of the local Missionaries of Basel Mission (Protestant) from Basel, Switzerland and Germany. They convinced the Board in Basel about the usefulness of starting an Institute which could turn out easily employable young men who could help themselves and their families and the society in general with their knowledge and skill. The main objective was to impart skills to young boys who had completed their High School and make them highly skilled craftsmen in precision work – both on machines as well as finishing by hand tools.
